Semi-nonparametric Estimation of Extended Ordered Probit Models
This paper presents a semi-nonparametric estimator for a series of generalized models that nest the Ordered Probit model and thereby relax the distributional assumptions in that model. It describes a new Stata command for the estimation of such models and presents an illustration of the approach.
متن کاملGMM Estimation of Panel Probit Models: Nonparametric Estimation of the Optimal Instruments
The generalised method of moments (GMM) is combined with the nonparametric estimation of the instrument matrix to obtain an easily computable estimator for the panel probit model. It is based on the speciication of the conditional mean of the binary dependent variable in each period, and therefore high-dimensional numerical integrations are avoided. An extensive Monte Carlo study compares this ...
متن کاملLarge Sample Sieve Estimation of Semi-Nonparametric Models∗
Often researchers find parametric models restrictive and sensitive to deviations from the parametric specifications; semi-nonparametric models are more flexible and robust, but lead to other complications such as introducing infinite dimensional parameter spaces that may not be compact. The method of sieves provides one way to tackle such complexities by optimizing an empirical criterion functi...
متن کاملProbit Transformation for Nonparametric Kernel Estimation of the Copula Density
Copula modelling has become ubiquitous in modern statistics. Here, the problem of nonparametrically estimating a copula density is addressed. Arguably the most popular nonparametric density estimator, the kernel estimator is not suitable for the unit-square-supported copula densities, mainly because it is heavily a↵ected by boundary bias issues. In addition, most common copulas admit unbounded ...
